Stokes St Time Lapse

As part of Housing Victoria’s Preston Renewal Project, this 4-storey apartment building in Stokes Street was one of the first ‘deemed to satisfy’ lightweight timber multi-storey constructions under the 2016 changes to the National Construction Code.

Released for construction at 40% design, Tilling SmartFrame’s design team worked extensively with builder, S.J. Higgins, and the merchant, Big River Group, to achieve this impressive construction. All design requirements were met, including structural, environmental, acoustic and fire.

This project used multiple products from the extensive SmartFrame range…

  • SmartLVL15 for lower wall studs, supporting increased mid-rise loads
  • SmartJoist and TecBeam for floor joists and roof, supporting large spans and loads
  • Glue Laminated and SmartLVL19 for beams, replacing steel where possible and reducing carbon footprint
